Someone has started a Number 10 petition calling for the end of unpaid internships. Well worth a look and a bit of discussion.
The petition reads:
”Unpaid internships and work experience placements for school and university leavers ensure that only young people whose parents can afford to fund them get a foothold on certain career paths. This leads to a lack of meritocracy, poor social mix and cohesion and denies talented but poorer young people opportunities. Paid internships should be advertised on a central clearing website and should be allocated on merit not connections.”
